缅因捕虾人

怀特在纽约的事业十分成功，不久之后，他离开喧闹的都市，移居缅因州的布鲁克林。乡村生活同样带给怀特许多创作的灵感，《A Maine Lobsterman（缅因捕虾人）》这部短小的纪录片就是其中之一。这部作品的主角是一个叫做 Eugene Eaton（尤金·伊顿）的渔夫，专职于捕虾，这部短片的主题便是记录尤金的一天。尤金的并不是一个虚构的人物，他确确实实是一个在缅因海岸边捕虾的人，他为怀特辛苦工作了整整四十八年，并且亦是怀特的另一部作品《Charlotte's Web（夏洛的网）》的主人公 Henry 的原型。

By Mr. EB White, one of our foremost writer who lives a good deal of the year up in Maine. He wrote this story and he's going to tell it to you. It's called A MAINE LOBSTERMAN. 

There's an old saying that if you're born on an island, you'll get your feet wet. The sea with its island is a place of business for a whole breed of men who don't mind wet feet. It's where the Maine lobster fisherman works nine months out of the year. His traps, his hopes, his investment, all lies 20 fathoms deep on rocky bottom off the coast of Maine.

Here on this granite ledge above this sheltered, cold begins his day. One day in the life of one man, this fellow's name is Eugene Eaten. He's island born as days go. This is a good day, but it starts early. It has itss rough moments later on, it starts as soon as any light in the sky. The hour of the fisherman, the hour of the crow. Most men go somewhere to work in the morning, and every man has some sort of destination, vague or positive. Along Maine's green indented coast, the destination of many solid citizen is a small wooden buoy walking a lobster trap, buried on sea bottom. Their alleged some miles offshore, the buoy got his name on it, it's got his number on it. It's not hard to get to, if you can find your way in the fog. The trap is easy to all of you know how, but it's no job for the lazy or the fearful. As the Eugene Eaten, it fits him like a glove.
